Neo

Neo is a noise-reducing earplug designed to protect newborns in intensive care units (NICUs) from harmful noise levels that can affect their development. The product features a soft, concave design that deflects sound waves and conforms gently to the baby’s ear without invading the ear canal. It was developed using 3D printing and biocompatible photopolymer resin to ensure both safety and reusability. This project aimed to combine medical functionality with thoughtful industrial design to support the wellbeing of the most vulnerable patients.

The Challenge

Newborns in intensive care are exposed to constant high noise levels, which can negatively impact their neurological development. The challenge was to design a non-invasive, safe, and comfortable solution to reduce auditory stress without interfering with medical procedures or the infant’s natural growth.

The Outcome

Printed prototype with flexible resin
